Spain has some amazing locations for skiing. Along with the Sierra Nevada in the the south, the north of Spain has a lot of ski experiences to offer. On the adjoining side of the French Pyrenees Mountains, lies the ski resort towns of Formigal, Panticosa, and Cerler. You can’t go wrong with any of these locations. Each one is beautiful and is a great experience for skiing and snowboarding. There’s also Baqueira Beret, close to Andorra, which is well known as the best ski resort in Spain, but it does come with a hefty price tag. Here’s what to expect when skiing in the Spanish Pyrenees.

Group Aramon Ski Resorts – Formigal, Panticosa, Cerler

Now, my personal ski experience is overall, fairly limited. However, over just a few weeks, I saw a big improvement in my ski skills from practicing on blue slopes and moving to reds. Panticosa and Formigal provide great practice slopes for beginners (like myself) and Cerler is equipped for people with mid to upper level ski experience.

To get here

The closest international airport is Barcelona, from there it’s under a 5 hour drive to Panticosa/Formigal and just under a 4 hour drive to Cerler. Car rentals are quite cheap here so it’s definitely worth renting one whether you’re coming from Barcelona or further out. From Madrid, these locations are about a 6 hour drive.

What you can expect to spend

Daily ski passes can run from €40-€70/ day depending on location and equipment rentals are fairly priced! Make sure you know your height and weight in cm and kilos respectively to get the proper equipment.

You can also easily find a joint deal with hotel + ski passes anywhere from €300-€700.

I cannot speak highly enough of the Hotel Resort Balneario of Panticosa. They have buffet breakfasts, dinners, and an incredible spa! The spa is extraordinary. It has many thermal baths, a sauna, a steam room, and a warm indoor/outdoor pool that provides an incredible view if the sunset, perfect to relax in after a day on the slopes.
