Booked a trip to Mallorca for my 25th birthday because why not! I was incredibly excited to spend my quarter of a century birthday abroad. Flights from mainland Spain to the Balearic Islands are so cheap in February (and off travel season/off party season) – I flew with a friend to celebrate and round trip was about 100€ total. Here’s how to spend a weekend on the beautiful island of Mallorca.

*Things to keep in mind* – during the winter and early spring months, the Balearic Islands are much calmer, still incredibly beautiful, but much calmer with the people and party scene. Places are not near as crowded and Ibiza is a dead zone. So, if you’re someone who wants the full night life and popular experience I’d wait for the summer time (prices may be a bit higher)*

BUT if you’re willing to go anytime cause you just want to explore, highly recommend this time period!

We spent 3 days in Mallorca with a quick ferry hop to Ibiza, for a total of 4 days. To see Mallorca, hands down rent a car! The island is small and can be seen fairly quickly and is so beautiful. Driving from Palma to Platja de Formentor in the north is about 80km. We rented a Fiat 500 from Hertz and it was perfect for this trip. Palma to the north of the island is a great path to explore.

Locations visited and loved

  • Platja Formentor
  • Mirador Es Colomer
  • Cap de Formentor (Lighthouse at the most Northern point of the island)
  • Cala Figuera
  • Castell de Bellver
  • Catedral de Santa Maria de Mallorca
  • Royal Palace of La Almudaina

Take a stroll around the city center in Palma and visit the Cathedral. One of Gaudis’ best works is this massive Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca.

Cathedral of Mallorca – It’s Massive!

This cathedral is stunning in its architecture and the stain glass windows inside.

View from the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, which was originally an Arabian fort, is now used by the royal family of Spain for many events. Royal Palace is to the left and in the far back to the right is the cathedral.

From Palma

take the Ma-13 to the Ma-2200 all the way up and you’ll reach the beautiful view of Cap de Formentor.

The landscape is jaw dropping

This is the point at the lighthouse where there’s a cafeteria so you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view. Also it’s very windy here as can be seen by hair in this photo. Definitely wear a wind breaker!

Just next to the view point of Cap de Formentor is Cala Figuera beach. This place is great for many reasons: there are not many people here, you have a great view, and crystal clear water.  A fantastic place to hangout for the day!

Just a bit west of Cala Figuera, you’ll find another incredible viewpoint at Mirador Es Colomer. This was my favorite. You can probably see why!

Cala Figuera beach Mallorca, Spain

In just under 3 days, visiting these incredible locations on this small island, I fell in love with Mallorca! I then jumped on a ferry to Ibiza to explore the infamous island, known for its incredible night life and beaches. As I only had 1 day here, I prioritized. So I headed down the port and directly to the Old Town, which did not disappoint.

 Views for miles and miles!

Walking along the roads and reading about the history on such a beautiful day was a wonderful experience. Of course, after exploring the Old Town, had to make my way to the beach! Next to my Airbnb, I mistakenly ran into a nude beach where to reach it, you had to abseil down a large rope onto a walking path that lead there (a hilarious realization) but definitely a fun experience!

And the water….. wow!

If you’re coming from mainland Spain, a weekend in Mallorca would be an incredible getaway with your friends or significant other. However if you have a week to spend away, go visit all four of the Balearic islands via ferry! Getting around by ferry is cheap and quick, check out Balearia Ferries here. I can’t recommend visiting these beautiful islands enough.
