There are tons of fun things to do in Cabo San Lucas! But, if you’re looking for an active adventure so you can work off those tacos and tequila, Mount Solmar is waiting for you to hike it.
I first read about this hike on Trip Advisor and was very intrigued. I absolutely love to hike – as it is a great alternative to going to the gym especially while on vacation!
To get here: Drive/Walk south on Blvd. Paseo de la Marina. Keep walking until you see the Naval Sector to your left (pictured above). Just passed this sign, there will be a chained gate to your right that will have many white signs with lots of writing surrounding it. Now, this is on PRIVATE PROPERTY. The owner runs a dog training program, so a lot of dogs will be around on the property.
So if you’re not a fan of dogs, you might want to reconsider this.
The large gate will be locked BUT the small chained gate door to the right of it that says “ABIERTO” is unlocked. Put your hand through the small square where a regular door handle would be and twist the bolt to unlock it. If you encounter any problems the owners phone number is listed on one of the many signs.
This gate should be unlocked, don’t litter and once you’re in the gate leave the owner of the property a tip in the tip box provided!
Now, how difficult is this hike??? Well, reading other posts I got the impression that this was a moderate hike, not easy but also not difficult; and this is true the first half of the hike I admit! However, once you get about halfway, it gets difficult. The rest of the way is about a 45 degrees incline up. I consider myself athletic and in good shape and this part was a struggle. After starting the difficult route up, my mom and I decided to turn back and go down the even path across to the other side (which was much easier).
This path had a fantastic view of Cabo!
Whichever path you decide to take, continue walking to the other side toward Land’s End! You’re able to hike down to the beach (be careful and take your time doing this). You will probably be exhausted from this so instead of hiking back there are water taxis available that will take you from the beaches at Land’s End back to the marina for about $10 USD.

What to bring?
- Several or large bottles of water: it’s very hot in the summer time and there are no trees around
- Camera
- Comfortable shoes
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Swimsuit & Towel & Sunscreen
- Snacks
This hike will give you an incomparable view of Cabo San Lucas and the beaches at the end will give you the rest of the day to just relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.
